SUICIDE
Leelah Alcorn was a transgender girl who was born in November 15,1997 in kings mills, Ohio died December 28,2014. The suicide was by a vehicular impact. She also posted a suicide note on tumblr blog writing about societal standards.
She committed suicide because when she came out to her parents Carla and Doug Alcorn they refused to accept her female identity. Once she turned 16 they told her she couldn’t go through transition treatment instead they sent her to therapy. Where they were convincing her to not be that female gender and that she is a male. She shared that she was attracted to men and the parents removed her from the school. In her note she mentioned that she was lonely and that was caused by her parents that caused her to feel how she felt.
Leelah killed her self by walking out in front of traffic on the interstate 71 highway. Where she was struck by a semi-trailer before 2:30 am they said walked three to four miles from her parents house. Before she did that she made sure that her post was posted online before she died and got a lot of attention from international mainstream and social media. This brought out all transgenders to speak on how much they suffer through in there lives. She was sad she couldn’t have her true identity with her parents and before they gave her the stuff to talk to her friends but she lost some of them.
They could’ve prevented this by letting her be and trying to accept her for what gender she was without a problem. Also having someone to listen through what her problems that she had at home. So she could tell them that she felt lonely and some people to support her through her tough times. To give her advice on what to do and her parents listening to her so they can sort something out instead of putting her through school and therapy for being transgender. Also trying to make a space in them to accept her, also people noticing the emotions that she had.
In conclusion I don’t think Suicide is the answer at all there would always be some to talk and listen to them. When they feel alone they shouldn’t just keep it to themselves they should talk it out with someone. The person should ask how are they and what caused them to be like that. If there going through something at home they should know that people will listen to them and they will be able. To hold on to there lives for so much more just let out there feelings talk to someone that are close to them and trust.
